MODERN COMPOSITE DESIGN

Q-SPD‘s unique main body design is a monocoque composite structure, molded using resin infusion of Eglass and carbon fibre fabrics, in an epoxy matrix, that is temperature cured to create a very accurate part. This mean a very light weight single structural component that is non-corrosive, super strong, robust and reliable.

Using light weight composite technologies offers the ability to Style and Form enhanced features that overcome many of the traditional surface drive compromises, as well as eliminating many complexities like trim control, which are simple not needed, hence eliminating vulnerability and reducing maintenance.

LIGHTWEIGHT & COMPACT

Q-SPD’s composite construction results in an exceptionally lightweight solution, being up to 50% lighter than comparable systems.

The installed length is significantly shorter than other surface drives, allowing it to fit more neatly beneath the platform without compromising waterline length. Q-SPD is not only shorter but also provides a shallower draft than a standard stern drive or fixed shaft.

LOWEST MAINTENANCE & EASY SERVICEABILITY

All Q-SPD solutions are designed to require virtually no maintenance! The hydraulic cylinders, lines, systems, and other essential mechanical components are housed within the vessel. With water-lubricated shaft bearings and self-lubricating rudder bearings, you can expect long-lasting, maintenance-free performance.

The inboard thrust assembly features water cooling and oil lubrication to ensure maximum longevity. The modular design allows for straightforward disassembly and maintenance if necessary. The key service components located inside to remain dry, clean, and protected from fouling and corrosion, making servicing more convenient. Additionally, splines rather than tapers facilitate easy disassembly and reassembly.

HIGH PERFORMANCE WITH EASY ACCELERATION

Q-SPD delivers the same efficiency improvements expected from Surface Drives at high speeds. This is inherent to the technology, and Q-SPD is no exception. However, Q-SPD is designed to enhance efficiency across the entire operating range, not just at high speeds. In contrast to many other brands, Q-SPD offers improved lower speed performance, even on very fast boats.

One remarkable feature of Q-SPD is its ability to provide quick and effortless acceleration. It utilises exhaust and passive air ventilation to ensure optimal propeller ventilation at all times. There’s no need to install vent pipes or vent grills on swim platforms to supply sufficient air to the propellers, and most importantly, there's no requirement for propeller trim adjustments to get out of the hole. Simply push the lever and go - it's an easier and faster way to get on plane.

SAVE FUEL, REDUCE EMISSIONS

The combination of propulsion efficiency and lightweight design in Q-SPD systems not only leads to decreased fuel consumption but also contributes to lower emissions.

With the propellers sitting at the surface level, it means that they do not need to work as hard and there is less energy wasted. Cavitation and bubbles produced by other propulsion systems are a massive energy waste. Although surface drives may look like they use more power due to the ‘rooster tail’ wake, this is not the case. In fact, the 'rooster tail' effect is primarily a visual phenomenon and does not accurately reflect the energy expenditure of the system.

Q-SPD drives run extremely smooth and quiet. Advanced propeller design along with drive system design means no vibration and the drive housing itself helps muffle exhaust noise such that all that can be heard is the flow or water from the propellers.

SMOOTH & QUIET

MANOEUVRABILITY & STEERING

The Q-SPD drive and propeller design provides improved low-speed performance without the need for propeller trim functions or other aids required by alternative drives. Q-SPD’s contoured underbody design enhances thrust at low speeds, both forward and in reverse, resulting in superior manoeuvrability and reverse capabilities. Clients have reported that manoeuvrability surpasses their previous experiences with conventional shafts and stern drives, making low-speed operation reliable and straightforward—without the need for trimming propellers.

Q-SPD's twin rudder design ensures highly responsive steering at all speeds. In fact, the performance is so impressive that, in some cases, rudder angles need to be limited at high speeds for crew safety. The rudders maintain constant hard water flow rather than operating in propeller wash, ensuring exceptional tracking across all speeds without the rudder vibration feedback often associated with trailing rudders.

The Q-SPD body and twin flanking rudders provide optimal protection for the crew, passengers, and the vessel against the powerful propellers, making it safer for swimmers. Unlike other drive systems, there’s no requirement for ventilation grills on platforms or excessive open space above the drive. This allows for the use of a closed swim platform, offering additional protection and a quieter operation.

SAFETY

Q-SPD comes as a completely assembled unit, ready for installation. There’s no need for disassembly or reassembly. Even the propeller is already fitted. All systems are provided with comprehensive installation instructions, templates, and the necessary installation hardware.

Q-SPD elevates the experience of surface drive technology by offering the most user-friendly surface drive package available. Being user-friendly means operators can enjoy peace of mind while using the vessel. There’s no requirement for drive trim control, eliminating the risk of operating in the incorrect trim mode, which could overload the engine and other equipment. Additionally, there are no concerns about hydraulic lines and linkages in the harsh marine environment. In essence, operating this system is as straightforward as managing a conventional propeller vessel, but with enhanced performance and agility.
